Building the Murphys Creek Road overpass

As the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing travels northwest from Helidon Spa, it intersects Postmans Ridge Road, reconfiguring the road into two sections. The western side of the road will remain accessible from Murphys Creek Road and a cul-de-sac will be constructed where it meets the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, enabling vehicles to turn around safely.

The eastern side of Postmans Ridge Road will be realigned northwest to connect with Murphys Creek Road. This involves extending Postmans Ridge Road (East) approximately 1.6km adjacent to the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

At Murphys Creek Road, a bridge will be constructed over the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing. There will be no access to or from the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing at this location. Motorists will be able to access the road bypass from the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa.

Construction updates

Work commenced in May on the Murphys Creek Road overpass. A traffic detour has been implemented west of the current Murphys Creek Road, 1.2km north of the Energex substation from 3 June 2017, to allow traffic to flow during construction of the overpass and construction of the Postmans Ridge Road realignment.

From late June through to January 2018, Nexus will construct the new Postmans Ridge Road alignment, connecting the existing Postmans Ridge Road (east) to Murphys Creek Road.

Once the bridge works are complete in early 2018, Murphys Creek Road and the new eastern section of Postmans Ridge Road will open to traffic and the cul-de-sac will take effect on the western side.

Use of the current haul road crossings across Postmans Ridge Road and Murphys Creek Road will continue until October 2017.

Motorists should expect reduced speed limits, traffic signalisation and increased project traffic. Construction impacts will also increase as works on the overpass ramp up.

Information on traffic impacts in the Murphys Creek Road/Postmans Ridge Road area is available on our traffic page.
