Gore Highway interchange

An interchange was constructed at the Gore Highway at Athol as part of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

What was involved?

Works involved constructing:

  • one on-ramp, enabling eastbound motorists to enter the TSRC
  • two single-lane off-ramps, enabling motorists to exit onto the Gore Highway in both directions
  • a single-span bridge, with one lane in each direction taking the westbound off-ramp over the Gore Highway
  • realigning the Athol School Road intersection to improve road safety for all road users
  • realigning Newton Road at Athol into east and west sections to accommodate the TSRC
  • realigning Wainwright Road at Athol into north and south sections to accommodate the westbound off-ramp (towards Pittsworth and Millmerran)
  • two six metre high retaining walls and embankments, on either side of the Gore Highway, to support the single-span bridge.
