As part of work on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, the western end of Ganzer Road and the southern end of Ganzer Morris Road at Gowrie Junction will be permanently realigned.

This involves constructing:

  • a new 1.4km section of Ganzer Road
  • a new 900m section of Ganzer Morris Road
  • a signalised intersection on Gowrie Junction Road and the new Ganzer Road
  • a four-lane bridge, taking the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing over Gowrie Junction Road.

Building Ganzer Road and Gowrie Junction Road

To accommodate the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and improve conditions for road users, an approximately 1.4km long section of Ganzer Road will be permanently realigned. The new section of Ganzer Road will connect to Gowrie Junction Road at a signalised intersection.

Once constructed, traffic will be switched onto the new road to allow works on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing alignment to commence. This is to maintain traffic access through the area during construction.

A 900m section of Ganzer Morris Road will be constructed to the north of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing alignment. The existing Ganzer Morris Road will not be upgraded as part of project works.

A four-lane bridge will be constructed taking the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing over Gowrie Junction Road. There will be no direct connection from the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing to Gowrie Junction Road.

Construction updates

Construction of the new 1.4km Ganzer Road alignment is underway, with the next key activity earthworks to form the connection between the new and existing Ganzer Road. Once earthworks are complete, road base will be applied across the extent of the new Ganzer Road alignment and pavement, line-marking, sign installation and Gowrie Junction Road intersection works will prepare the road for opening. The new Ganzer Road alignment will allow motorists access to Gowrie Junction Road while adjacent Toowoomba Second Range Crossing works continue.

Landscaping within the west region of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing alignment is set to commence and stockpiled soil will be prepared for its new role as re-spread topsoil for revegetation. Landscaping will continue until late 2018 when the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is expected to be complete. Revegetation and re-seeding is scheduled intermittently to afford the best chance of survival for young plants. Watch out for the green swathes of cover crops adjacent to the new Ganzer Road alignment which are expected to germinate in Spring 2017.

Works have commenced on the new Ganzer-Morris Road alignment, with excavation to embankment earthworks forming the new 900m section.

Construction of the four-lane, two-span Gowrie Junction Road bridge achieved an important milestone in early July 2017, with the installation of 58 deck units. Concrete works on deck units and bridge parapets are the next key activities.
