Nexus supports local community projects

Four more community projects within the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley regions have received funding through the fourth and final round of the Nexus Together community giving program.

Nexus Delivery Project Director Mike Millar said the grants, worth up to $4000 each, would help support positive community outcomes in health, safety, education and the environment.

“Groups applying for the grants were required to demonstrate how their proposal would benefit the local community through its innovation, participation and impact,” Mr Millar said.

“We received applications of a very high standard, which is testament to not only the quality of community groups in these regions but the importance this area places on their community.”

The community programs selected for funding for the final round are:

  • Lions Club Withcott-Helidon Inc – installation of LED floodlighting at the new Community Centre/ Men’s Shed facility
  • Gowrie State School P&C Association – upgrade of kitchen electrical appliances to be more reliable and energy efficient for the outside school hours care
  • Wilsonton Agricultural and Field Studies Centre – extension of the kitchen garden and establishment of an aquaponics or vertical wall system
  • Darling Downs Swimming Association – purchase of a large shade structure and contribution to the purchase of two smaller shade structures.

Mr Millar said he was looking forward to seeing the positive impact these projects will have on the local regions.

“Nexus is proud to be working in these communities to build the long-awaited Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and helping support local community groups through the Nexus Together community giving program,” he said.

The Nexus sponsorship program ran for two years and funded several projects including Return to the Wild’s improved koala rehabilitation enclosures, the establishment of Lockyer Valley Landcare’s environmental education centre, additional firefighting resources for the Withcott Rural Fire Brigade and new mattresses to expand Teen Challenge Care’s substance abuse service.
