Warrego Highway east interchange
The eastern end of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is at the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa. This interchange enables road users to enter and exit the 41km road bypass.
What's involved?
This interchange involved:
- constructing a bridge over the Warrego Highway at Helidon Spa, with two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes, enabling motorists to enter and exit the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing
- realigning a section of the Warrego Highway to ensure motorists travelling from Toowoomba to Brisbane are not impacted by the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing
- closing the median break at the intersection of the Warrego Highway, Postmans Ridge Road and Twidales Road at Helidon Spa in late 2018 (due to the safety impacts of merging and weaving traffic at the Warrego Highway east interchange and right-turning traffic at the intersection). This closure will restrict all right turns at this intersection.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has developed a solution to enable all turning movements within a short distance of the intersection, minimising the impacts on traffic that would have previously turned right at the intersection.
